Robinson R22

Worked on an autopilot based blade vortex interaction algorithm.
It's a separate XML file which can be adapted to any chopper. It
outputs a single property which drives the volume for the blade
vortex interaction sound.

Good stuff, but as the controlling Nasal in our chopers already has some form of Blade vortex driver for the sound, will they play nice together or not?

Yes, it will play nice with that. I wanted something simple
that this R22 could use without the whole Nasal scripting
madness attached to it.

Also what the Nasal version of the BVI does is mostly play
the sound when the aircraft itself is coming down at an
angle. And this has little to do with the rotor blades.

So I tried to develop something that actually reacts to the
way the blades move instead of the fuselage.

It probably needs some tuning still. But makes for more
lively sound for sure.

well we have plenty of choppers to test it on.

Found a CC0 source for an R44 sound. So I sped it up to match the rotor RPM
of an R22. And then I split the sample to two frequency bands. One
representing the engine sound and the other the blades and I'm driving the
two slices of the same sound with their own properties. Works pretty well.

By the way I'm kind of happy how the wind sound turned
out. I mean this is the first time I recall actually hearing
wind gusts in the cockpit while flying.

Hmm... it just occurred to me that there are better properties than airspeed-kt
for including wind gust sounds.

With these I could implement directional wind gust sounds:

/velocities/speed-north-fps
/velocities/speed-east-fps
/velocities/speed-down-fps

Somebody asked for a link for the R22. So in case somebody
would find some enjoyment out of it then here you go.

Personally I don't think the sounds are good enough yet
because sometimes I can hear them looping. And nothing
has been done to the external sounds either.

But have fun anyway! :)
