FlightNight 14th August 2021

This week the intrepid FGUK team and friends will be delivering supplies to a staging area at Fukushima airport in support of the ongoing nuclear mitigation efforts at the wrecked Tepco facility. To this end, a number of military transport vehicles heavily modified to shield the operators from radiation are being moved to this forward point to aid in the monitoring and mitigation work required.

This mission occurs in 2 stages.

Stage 1

Allowed aircraft: C-17 Globemaster III

Starting at Okayama, units will fly the route below to deliver payloads to Fukushima airport.

Flightplan 1

Stage 2

Allowed aircraft: CH-53e, UH-60, AH-1W, EC665, Merlin HM1

After deployment and delivery to Fukushima, and a well earned rest, our pilots are further tasked with conducting radiation monitoring at various points around the facility. These are marked with a radiation symbol on a mast.

Starting at Fukushima, units will flu the orbital route below. All units are required to touch down briefly around the marker to take radiation readings at local ground level.

Flightplan 2

To aid pilots in navigation, the Route Manager Routes are packaged together and located HERE

The scenario to view the radiation markers for Part 2 is HERE

All units will take readings and return back to Fukushima airport at the conclusion of the mission and sake will be quaffed by all! Hai!

If plugging your own waypoints, the Tepco Fukushima reactor site is at:

Degrees
37’25* 22.2N 141’01* 45.7E

Decimal
37.422833 / 141.029361

For some reason inputting OWLET in the route manager wants to take me on a 5000 + mile trip from this area.

OWLET is in the states and not in FG as a scenery object.
The lat/log is a place in Japan.

Where does the AL folder go in FG?

Answers back to front....!

There is no AL folder, unless my shitey typing is too blame. It is AI (ai).

Now, OWLET.
There are, just to be bloody awkward, two OWLETs. One is in the States, and one is in Japan. Obviously it's the Japan one we want. Both of these waypoints are Fixes.

Looking at the mmap, under the Nav tab, a search for OWLET shows both. For me, at least, the top one is the Japan one.

Also, you can see in my Route Manager screen that I adjusted it to show Lat / Long rather than the distance between the waypoints. That way you can confirm you have the right one.

Taa-dah! :woohoo:

Got a near full site again this weekend. Attendance is once again looking rather unlikely.

At the moment, next weekend is looking quieter, but there 7 days in between where that can change.
