Someone changed everything

12

Yes it was me, I thought the other forum was a bit ugly and restrictive. This one isn't perfect but I think it looks better and might fit out needs a little more.

I'm sorry we did lose about 7 posts that had been made so please accept my apologies but I thought best to do it at this point than in a month or 6's time.

Any comments and feedback welcome! There's still a few bugs where the colours don't quite match (white text on white background etc) which I'm trying to nail down. Leave it with me and I'll hopefully get them all fixed.

Actually I was going to ask if there was a away to change the format/fonts/layout of the forum as I was having difficulty reading it, but this is much better

thanks!

Change is inevitable, and also welcome. Thanks for putting in the effort!

To be fair, the orange text on white background is a little hard to read, maybe a deeper colour for the text, or keep the orange and have darker background?

Thanks, Scott.

I've changed it to "our" red which I think might be a little bit better?
The issue we have is some elements have to be on a light background and some on a dark, it's a pain and a bit of a flaw in design but it works well with our colour palette so we're kind of stuck with it.

URL now changed to the main one, old site will be going back up on the home.fguk.me url as a reference for a few months until we fill this up with enough information about the relevant projects.

Any problems please let us know.

Still can't resolve the issue on the image upload box where it's showing white text on a white background but working on it.

Hi Alex, I have tried looking for the old forum, but it's not loading correctly at home.fguk.me

I need a link that someone once shared for where they had hosted a copy of the GitLab Desktop (for Linux) application, since the official sources are rubbish. Trying to install it on the Raspberry Pi.

Cheers, Scott

There's a github desktop for linux app here:

https://github.com/shiftkey/desktop/releases

but as far as I can tell it's x86 only - you would have to compile for ARM to get it running on the Rpi

As an alternative there is VsCode for the Rpi, that surprisingly has a decent git plugin

Instructions to get VScode on RPi are here

https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/setup/raspberry-pi

works on 32bit & 64bit Pi OS

Yes, this is the program I meant, sorry I wrote GitLab, not HitHub. I have found it difficult to download and install recently (on regular 64bit Linux Mint computers) using that link, but as you just pointed out it being only for x86, this could have something to do with my issues.

Someone on the old FGUK forum had hosted it themselves, possibly as a ready-to-go appimage from distant memory, whatever it was, it worked well.
